MBSR is validated for effectiveness and endorsed for hundreds of medical benefits being subjected to clinical trials by researchers from several dozen university and major medical institutes worldwide - including over a thousand peer-reviewed research publications. MBSR training is typically 6-week in length including components of mindfulness, basic yoga practice and meditation training in vipassana (described below; which in modern days is also called insight meditation). TM reached American in the I960 from the likes of the Beatles and others, is popular amongst many of Hollywood, business, etc. elite (in part due to its effective relatively simple aka no need for other methods outside of its 20min twice daily practice periods. TM is also subject to about a thousand research investigations (like MBSR), is endorsed by the American Heart Association for blood pressure reduction (by about I0-I5mmHg) with even more pronounced although not yet endorsed per se 50% reduction in heart attack and stroke rates. It also has similar benefits to psychotherapies and rx in certain populations with mental health conditions, overall clearly benefits a number of mental health outcomes including anger more than anything it seems, anxiety and depression well too. More so, it offers rather profound benefits (up to 50% increase) in work and school productivity; another reason for popularity in Hollywood and corporations as well as the success of a grade school near its including an adolescent aged full-time school in IA that teach its methods along with standard curriculum, yoga, etc. to student ranging from early elementary to high school ages. Importantly, it is also the core meditation technique utilized within the thousand plus study researched-validated program Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which also includes training in hatha yoga and mindfulness (i.e., present moment awareness - as described above by Jon Kabat-Zin, PhD, the founder of MBSR). Vipassana is traditionally taught (and generally need be for the depth of its capacities) in a step wise approach beginning with anapana (i.e., breath awareness) for at I0+ hours of practice (as taught in Days 1 to 3 of vipassana instructions above). Afterwhich, mindful localization of sensations are taught and practiced for an additional I0+ hours. Only afterward, is the formal practice of vipassana or yoga nidra accurately activated and taught. We do not recommend vipassana or yoga nidra be practiced without these preliminary practices gained in the one-time 20+ hours training of these preliminary practices, which are later used as 5-I5 warm-up for 30-60+ minutes practice sessions of vipassana/yoga nidra.
